Quiet Oaks - nashville / Hussies

Quiet Oaks are an American indie rock band from Salt Lake City, UT. Consisting of members Dane Sandberg, Spencer Sayer, Mike Moon, and Jon Butler. They provide a western take on rock and roll that is well constructed, unabashed, and energetic. Bringing a raucous and chaotic element to a classic and familiar sound.

Since their formation in 2015, the band has maintained a consistent touring schedule taking them across the country many times. (Including an independently booked, 50+ date US tour). They have had the opportunity to share the stage with Cold War Kids, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Twin Peaks, Post Animal, Matthew Logan Vasquez, The Districts, and more. Their debut record ‘Pretty Alright’ was released on March 17, 2017.
The band has since relocated to Nashville, TN.

Lavender Country/ Gun Outfit / Paisley Fields

LAVENDER COUNTRY IS COMING BACK!

A true Pioneer with a punk attitude......Only a thousand copies of Lavender Country were made back in 1973, but thanks to word of mouth and a cult following, the record received a loving re-release in 2014—and now holds its rightful place in LGBT and music history.

“To the uninitiated, Patrick Haggerty may seem like a man of stark contradictions. He is both fiercely opinionated and exceedingly tender. His story is larger than life, yet he lives humbly. He’s a country singer and he’s gay,” wrote Sam Morrill in an interview with Haggerty.

In 1973, Patrick Haggerty recorded and released Lavender Country, a collection of gay radical country music. Though all of the records sold and the project was celebrated in a small portion of the gay community, Lavender Country proved too extreme for the music industry of the 70s and the project fizzled. 40 years later, independent record label Paradise of Bachelors reissued Lavender Country to rave reviews and a much more accepting public. Patrick and his music became the subject of an award winning short documentary, Cryin’ These C*cksuckin’ Tears, and Lavender Country went from being a lost obscurity to an underground legend.

Since 2014, Patrick has played shows all over the states, from New York to San Francisco and everywhere in between, spreading his revolutionary message of love and acceptance in the face of violence, hate and fascism. Lavender Country concerts incorporate powerful and touching stories from Patrick’s life – his upbringing in rural Washington, his expulsion from the Peace Corp for “deviant behavior”, life before and after Stonewall, and much more. From beginning to end, Lavender Country is one of the most dynamic and poignant shows of our time. You will laugh, cry, sing and dance to the once-in-a-lifetime experience that is Lavender Country!

Brothers Book Club: My Antonia

Hosted by Dundee Book Company

Join us for a spirited discussion of Willa Cather's classic novel MY ANTONIA. Sometimes overlooked as an exemplar of modernist fiction, new generations of readers are still dazzled by the beauty and psychological innovation of this immigrant story set in Nebraska.

Did you read the novel in high school? Were you tired of hearing about Cather growing up and never actually read her work? Come decide for yourself and debate if the hype is deserved.

Buy a copy of MY ANTONIA online (https://dundeebook.co/my-antonia-brothers-book-club-selection-for-march/; use the code BOOKCLUB15 to get 15% off your online purchase) or get a discounted copy at one of our upcoming events.

We meet the third Tuesday of every odd-numbered month--Mar 19, May 21--so if you can't make it this month, we hope to see you soon.

-

In this symphonically powerful and magnificently observed novel, Cather created one of the most winning heroines in American fiction, a woman whose calm, undemonstrative strength and robust high spirits make her emblematic of the virtues Cather most admired in her country. Ántonia Shimerda is the daughter of Bohemian immigrant parents struggling with the oceanic loneliness of life on the Nebraska prairie. Through the eyes of Jim Burden, her tutor and disappointed admirer, we follow Ántonia from farm to town as she survives hardships both natural and human, from poverty to a failed romance—and not only survives, but triumphs.

Willa Cather, author of twelve novels, including O Pioneers!, My Ántonia, and Death Comes for the Archbishop, was born in Virginia in 1873 but grew up in Nebraska, where many of her novels are set. In 1922 she won the Pulitzer Prize for one of her lesser-known books, One of Ours. Her other novels include The Song of the Lark, The Professor’ s House, My Mortal Enemy, and Lucy Gayheart. She died in 1947 in New York City.

Stealing Happy Hours w/ 311

For over two decades, theologians worldwide have pondered what the Gods (311) meant when they spoke of "Stealing Happy Hours" in the book of Transistor 21:8–9, 15–18.

I too have struggled to interpret such a CRYPTIC passage, but now I have seen the top of the mountain — and it is good.

This Monday, on the Day of our Lords, I will embark once more on my annual pilgrimage to the "Inner Light Spectrum", but this time, I will walk it in steps:

1. First, by stealing Nite Owl's happy hour from 5 - 7 P.M. for an extravaganza of the five senses, including 311-themed food AND drink specials;

2. Second, for a private, auditory worship of 311's opus, "Transistor” (beer and wine provided; location TBA);

3.11. And third, by ending our pilgrimage at an establishment RENOWNED for their undying love of all things 311, brothers lounge! 😘😘😘

Let's ensure this 3/11 is a "Beautiful Disaster" of epic proportions. "Don't Stay Home" after work this Monday!

Your Land: Photographs by Meghan Duda

Hosted by Link Gallery & Workshop

This land is Your Land. This land is the Grand-Staircase Escalante National Monument - 1.8 million acres held within the public domain in southern Utah. These photographs are a momentary account of this land; impressions of landscape, space, and time that visualize the presence of light and perspective parallel to experienced reality. They are pinhole photographs that capture a 360 degree view - a distorted panorama of overlapping impressions in which vantage point is eliminated and yet emphasized.

This land is remarkable. It reveals a layered history - geologic, paleontological, and cultural - exposing an unfathomable expanse of time. This series of pinhole photographs aims to record a more immediate experience. Designed specifically for this landscape, the camera is placed directly on the ground, exposing the richness of desert life found mainly at a scale below the knee. Unexpectedly, it captures an astounding range of view from immediate foreground to the far off distance. Scale is amplified. Perspective is shifted. The results are simple atmospheric gradations of light that become place and no-place at the same time. Yet these photographic impressions are deeply rooted to their place, recording a brief moment in time of an eternally shifting landscape.

Meghan Duda creates atmospheric recordings of space and time with a collection of handmade pinhole cameras. After earning her bachelor degree in Architecture from Virginia Tech in 2005 she began traveling the country, developing a practice photographing vernacular architecture. Born in western Massachusetts and raised on the South Carolina coast, she finally settled in Fargo, North Dakota in 2007 and was struck by the vast prairie landscape. At this point her photographic focus shifted from architectural photography to experimental landscape photography. It was while pursuing an MFA at the University of North Dakota that she built her first handmade camera which she named the Trailer Obscura - a 5’ x 8’ pinhole camera on wheels that she uses to make large atmospheric recordings of the prairie. Duda continues to construct cameras as a way to explore vantage point and perspective and to express the many ways in which the camera perceives light.
